BATTERSEA POCKET GARDEN

In the midst of a bustling city, the Battersea Pocket Garden provides a small yet impactful green retreat. We have created an elegant contemporary outdoor space with crisp clean lines and materials which are softened by lush evergreen planting and wooden furniture, the space has literally become an outdoor room - it looks beautiful  yet is practical and can be entertained in all year round.  The garden is visible at all times from within and it is crucial that the space is given some interest.  Creating different seating areas are key to make the most use of the garden whether it is for entertaining or just to hang out in as a family and enjoy and relax.  The outdoor kitchen provides storage including space for 3 bicycles and an added bar area offers more entertainment space. The garden sits low and bringing 3-dimension into the space was extremely important to divert from the height of the surrounding walls/ trellis.  The planting is designed to provide interest all year round and layered planting and climbers soften the walls/ trellis - a strong backbone is key to make sure the garden looks good even in winter.  Subtle lighting will extend the interior outside on dark winter months and will make the garden usable long into the night on summer evenings! The choice of furniture was extremely important and completed the picture. Light ceramic paving, polished concrete and rendered walls create a palette of materials and colours with natural timber incorporated in places. The planting including layers of grasses and hedging providing interest, softness and depth. The planting is simple yet effective and two large pots containing beautiful multi-stem trees and soft underplanting have been added for interest and height and will bring additional depth to the garden.  They look beautiful lit up at night!
